PRESENTATION

Objective and Scope

The Academia Abierta publishing house of the URJC (hereinafter EAA-URJC) is an open publications project and is established as a meeting and dissemination space for the university community and society in general. Its operation and structure are regulated in the Regulations of the Academia Abierta Publishing House of the Rey Juan Carlos University approved by Agreement of the Governing Council, in a session held on October 3, 2024, and published in the URJC Bulletin of November 8, 2024. Its mission is to facilitate the exchange of ideas, academic debate and the dissemination of knowledge, following the principles of transparency, equity and scientific quality.

The fundamental objectives are:

To disseminate the research and cultural and artistic creation works of the members of the university community of Rey Juan Carlos University.

To promote the publication of manuals and texts to support teaching in the field of the URJC.

  • Promote scientific dissemination through the publication of works aimed at a wide audience.
  • Publish institutional works related to Rey Juan Carlos University.
  • Prepare and publish an annual catalogue that reflects the URJC's publishing funds.
  • Collaborate in cultural initiatives related to the world of books and open-access publishing.

The creation of a university publishing house dedicated to open-access publishing is a crucial step to democratize knowledge, foster academic collaboration and contribute to the advancement of research in a global environment.

The URJC recognizes the transformative potential of open-access academic publishing as a tool to promote innovation, inclusion and social progress in the Open Publishing and Free Culture Regulations of the Rey Juan Carlos University, approved by agreement of the Governing Council in a session of October 3, 2024. Published in the URJC Bulletin of November 8, 2024.

The URJC Publications Service establishes its objectives and purposes in Article 196 of the Statutes of Rey Juan Carlos University. Its main function is to support study, teaching, research and cultural outreach, through the publication of books or magazines, in paper format or through any other technological means, as well as the distribution and dissemination of scientific, technical, literary, artistic or cultural production.

The commitment of the Rey Juan Carlos University to support open access begins and is made explicit in the Regulations on Access and Open Culture of the Rey Juan Carlos University, which was approved by the Governing Council on December 18, 2020, and determines the specific instruments for the University to carry out its purposes in the context of open access publication. Along these lines, Rey Juan Carlos University strengthened its position in the field of open knowledge when the Governing Council approved, on January 31, 2020, the Institutional Declaration of the Rey Juan Carlos University on Science, Education and Open Publishing.

 

Declaration of principles

As stated above, the publisher Academia Abierta defends free and open access to its contents as a way of exchanging universal knowledge. Thus, users can read, download, copy, modify and distribute all the full texts of the articles. In this way, the publisher does not charge any type of remuneration for publishing the research and dissemination works of the authors, nor for access to their reading, downloading and distribution, whether of national or international origin.

 

Publication Frequency

The period for receiving manuscripts will be regulated in each collection. However, as a general rule, the academic period for receiving materials will be regulated within the academic calendar:

  • September to December
  • January to May

 

Language of publication

The main language of the EAA is Spanish, although works in English are accepted when the editorial committee considers them to be of special relevance, as well as other neighbouring languages ​​such as Portuguese or French.

Interoperability protocol

All materials published under the name of Editorial Academia abierta, provide an OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative – Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) interface that allows interoperability between different platforms and repositories through the exchange of metadata.

Metadata formats: Dublin Core; MARC; MARC21; RFC1807; XML JATS.
